Baked Apples with Cinnamon and Nuts

Time: 55 minutes

INGREDIENTS:

4 large apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
1/4 cup chopped nuts (such as walnuts, pecans, or almonds)
2 tablespoons brown sugar or honey
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
1/2 cup apple cider or water
Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for serving (optional)

Serves: 4  People

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a baking dish or line it with parchment paper.

2. Prepare the Apples:
a. Wash the apples and remove the cores using an apple corer or a small knife, leaving the bottoms intact. You can also use a melon baller to scoop out the cores.
b.  If desired, use a paring knife to score a shallow ring around the top of each apple to prevent splitting during baking.

3. Prepare the Filling:
In a small bowl, mix together the chopped nuts, brown sugar or honey, and ground cinnamon until well combined.

4. Fill the Apples:
Place the prepared apples in the baking dish. Stuff each apple cavity with the nut mixture, pressing gently to compact the filling.

5. Drizzle with Butter:
Drizzle the melted butter evenly over the stuffed apples.

6.  Add Liquid to the Dish:
Pour the apple cider or water into the bottom of the baking dish, around the apples. This will help keep the apples moist while baking.

7. Bake:
Transfer the baking dish to the preheated oven and bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the apples are tender when pierced with a fork.

8. Baste:
Occasionally, baste the apples with the liquid in the baking dish to keep them moist and flavorful.

9.  Serve:
a. Once baked, remove the apples from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving.
b. Serve the baked apples warm, optionally topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
